12/22/06 - My Xbox360 Died...

Well, today my launch day 360 died. (lasted a little over a year)

I went to start my system and at the startup screen it started freezing, then after the third or fourth reboot i got the 3 Rings of Death.

Whats interesting is that i did my monthly backup of my game saves to my memory card yesterday, maybe i have ESP or something but im soooo happy that i did that. Microsoft will be sending me my repair box and it will be free since Microsoft extended all warranties on the 360 to one year, also they told me that since its the holidays that they are pretty much repairing everything for free. My unit is about a month over a year old.

Hopefully i will get a new working unit this time.

See you guys soon, maybe i will head out of the house and light for the first time in a year, lol. Seriously though, im glad this happen now than any other time, im heading to NY to spend time with the girlfriend and her family and i wont be home for a few days so it should work out.

So today i got some great news from an inside source in the industry and they told me the following:

"There are a ton of details we simply can’t reveal right now but we can confirm that this content will be coming out sometime next Spring and it will cost something to download. We can also confirm that this new content is only going to be available on Xbox 360 and that you’ll need a hard drive to download them (which is also required to play Halo 2 on 360 anyways)...."

Well, Gears of War is finally out and making its way to stores near you. I finally got my copy yesturday after hunting around at three different stores and finally finding one at Best Buy in Pentagon City Mall.

I had preordered my copy at Gamestop but they had "shipping problems" so i just went ahead and went somewhere else, i also got a refund for the money i put down on the game.

Well, i have the game and it is probably the best 360 game if not one of the best videogames i have ever played. Its right up there with the Halo franchise that i love so much, and thats saying alot.

The press is also loving the game, below is a video review from Gamespot as well as some scores from popular videogame websites.

The Best Game Ever - Halo 2

If you dont know, im a huge Halo fan. I love the game that i stood in line for on November 9, 2004. It was a midnight release and i was staying with a friend in Aventura, Florida. He let me borrow his Lexus IS300 and i went to Aventura Mall to stand in line to enter EBGames to get my Special Limited Edition copy of Halo 2.

It was an amazing day. This was one of my favorite moments in my life, right up there with standing 12 hours in the cold rain in front of Best Buy for my 360, and in the future getting married and maybe having a kid.

I have played this game almost every day for the last 2 years and it still begs for me to come back for more. No other game has every made me feel for it the way Halo does. If Master Cheif was a women i would virtually marry her.

The sound of the game's intro theme gives me goose bumps, take a listen and look at the Halo 2 Theme performed by three different artists.

Yesterday on Xbox Live Marketplace i viewed the Gears of Wear TV AD. It has to be the best video game ad i have seen ever. It actually makes you feel for the character and at the same time makes you want to do whatever it takes to get this game.

I reserved the Collector's Edition of this game and im counting down the days to its release, November 7 - 12 will be Emergence Day, are you ready?

Tiger Woods 2007, Best Golf Game Ever?

This week i picked up Tiger Woods 07 for the Xbox 360. The game is very impressive and probably will be the last golf game i will need.

My only grip with the game is the Multilayer. The game does not work on xbox live! If your lucky you might get a game in but more then not your system will freeze when trying to get into the lobby to set up any game online and you will have to reboot the system. EA has said that they are aware of the situation and they are working on a patch. This really pisses me off becaus 1000's of people paid $60 for a broken game. Once the patch is released the game experience will be complete then i can play against my friends online.

Import Tuner Challenge, This Game Grows on You...

Well, im about 25% into the game and i have to say that this game has grown on me.

At first i was disappointed in the game because it didn’t meet my expectations of the other Tokyo extreme games. But after playing it for many hours the changes and new features in the game are becoming more apparent.

For example, the Parking Areas on the map are my new favorite spot to go to. I like reading everyone’s story and then challenging anyone i can. After you beat a few teammates there leader will appear in the PA and then you can challenge them. Its really interesting and i enjoy the "story/dialog" that goes on with the racers. Also after you beat them they have respect for you and wish you luck.

I have gotten use to the "front of the car view" now, but when i first started i really missed the good camera angle that they had in the other TXR games (the view that was outside of the car and let you see a lot of the track in front of you)

Anyway, i just want to say give this game a try and stay with it. After a while it will grow on you and you will want to keep going.

Btw, my first car is the only car i have, its the 350Z Fairlady, I have not bought another car because i have not needed to and i have over14 Million in the bank.

Tip: One word of advice that i found on this forum works great and is a must for myself. Buy the Nitrous Kit, and use it at the start of the race when possible, especially against bosses. Once you use it it should get you ahead of the car you are racing against and from there you can block them from getting ahead of you.

Although my car was not faster then a lot of cars i raced, when i use the Nitrous start and get in the lead, i keep the other car from getting ahead of me.

Well, i have written way to much, Give this game a chance and you might like it.

Below is a quote from a reader on the Engadget.com blog website, he basicly sums up the two formats and its exactly how i feel about the matter.

"If Sony would wake up and stop encoding their movies in MPEG-2" old encoding format "they wouldn't have to worry about the extra 25GB of space...

This is yet another nail in the coffin for BlueRay IMO...

HD-DVD Advantages:
Newer video compression with superior video quality
Cheaper to produce discs
Players are cheaper for consumers
Doesn't need 50GB of storage space for long movies
Isn't sacrificing video quality like Blueray to squeeze a 2 hour HD movie encoded in MPEG-2 in 25GB of space.

BR Advantages:
NONE!
Price? Nope
Video quality? Nope
Video storage capacity? Nope

Oh wait, but it does have a larger disc. But it's extra space is rendered USELESS since they encode their video with MPEG-2.

This 50GB disc which doesn't exist yet, is only an advantage to PC users.

I personally could care less about 50GB of disc space. It's not needed when you encode your HD with a new video codec like HD-DVD is using (h.264)

But in the US for some reason "quantity over quality" always seems to win out with the sheep. XM radio and Sirius are prime examples of "quantity over quality". FM radio sounds WAY better than XM or Sirius. The only way anyone could possibly think those satellite services sound better than FM is if they were deaf... I have a Xbox 360, but now I need a HDTV!

So now I have a Xbox 360 and im enjoying the games, I have Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, but then I realize that im playing on a over 5 year old 27” TV. It getting frustrating knowing that my games can look a lot better in HD and that the games and the system is built for HD but im not taking advantage of this because I don’t own a HDTV. Its disappointing because im only experience about half of the game experience and im missing a lot of the visual details that can only be seen and appreciated in HD.

Now we all know that HDTV’s can be expensive but im not looking to get a 42” Plasma, im looking to get a 30” Widescreen HDTV CRT (the conventional tvs that weight about 150 pounds). The CRTs produce good pictures and a good tv can be purchased for around $800.

So how will I be able to afford such a tv? Well below are my ideas.

1. Sell my collection of figures and statues. With over 200 figures/statues in there original package, I think I can make a little money back on them.

2. Create a HDTV fund. My birthday is on June 1st, so I will try to ask people if they would like to make a contribution to my HDTV fund and I will use PayPal or accept cash and/or money order. On my birthday I will take whatever is collected and then try to buy a HDTV.

3. Sell my body to science. I don’t know how much that will fetch but im sure they can figure something out :)

Well, what do you think? Any suggestions or comments?

Got my Xbox 360!!!!

Well, im finally back to posting in my blog. I stood in line for the Xbox 360 for over 10 hours at a best buy near my home. It was totally worth it but boy did it suck to stay in line from 10pm till 8am. My girlfriend J was there with me and stood there till 2am, then i had some of the guys waiting there with me hold my spot and i took her home. But what a lucky man i am to have a girlfriend willing to hang in there with me, she is a real trooper.

The night was extremely cold and wet and i was number 11 in line out of about 75-100 people. Through out the night every one took turns going to there car and getting warmed up. It was the most miserable 10 hours of my life, I thought I had frost bite a few times through out the night. J was kind enough to bring me food and I shared some of it with the guys in line.

As the morning came everyone was on edge and a lot of people started to get inline around 7am. I almost got in a fight with this older guy because he was trying to say that one of the guys that was in my group was cutting in line but he didn’t know we were holding each others spot while we got warmed up in the car. Everyone was with me in the fact that we were going to beat this guy down if he messed with us and our chance to get the 360.

I know I sound crazy with all this Xbox 360 stuff but I really love the product and im enjoying it. What can I say, im a gamer.

So Best Buy let us in one by one and I finally got my 360 at 8:30am, I went straight home, left the 360 in my apartment and went straight to work. My boss knew I was staying in line so he said I could take my time.

Over the past few months I got some games and here they are:

Now that November 22 is approaching, its time to decide how i will spend my money. I decided to keep it simple and get only one game and a accessory. My decision was based on the fact that the Xbox 360 will cost me $399 and that doesn’t leave much room for games. Also i will go with a game i love and not a new Xbox 360 game. Why would i do that? Because i want to wait until there are reviews for the 360 games. The games this time around for the new console are around $60 each and i want to read a review before spending that kind of cash. Well, here is my list.

1. Xbox 360 (System, Hard Drive, Headset, wireless gamepad, etc.)

2. Halo 2 (I can't live without this game, its a must)

3. Xbox 360 Faceplate (something to make it look nice)

That’s my list, what will you be getting on launch day?

Waiting Game...

Well, the Xbox 360 is almost here and i can't wait. I have not reserved a system yet but im still hopeful that I will get one at a Wal-Mart or Target. Wal-Mart stores will be open at midnight and I read this on Wal-Mart’s web site so I should be in good shape.

Finding money to have when the system comes out is another story, I will be short on cash due to Rent/Car payments etc. on the 22nd, but I will try to buy one somehow though. I leave to go to NY to visit my folks with my girlfriend the day after the 22nd so I won’t have much play time with it but I will make time for it.

Once I have the system I will have to save yet again for a HDTV, right now I have the Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1 Surround sound system but I need to upgrade to HDTV. I will most likely upgrade to a 32” CRT as it will fit my budget.

Im hanging in there and waiting, reading and watching videos of the games for Xbox 360 and im so excited about it.

Oh… I forgot to tell you, I got to play a Xbox 360 on Saturday when I went to the mall, it was at a EBGames and I was in the store for at least 10 min before noticing it. Its looking amazing and just adds to the anticipation.
